Throughout the years, PAI has been contacted by various states Legislators, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), National Health Underwriters, Robert Woods Johnson Foundation, Academy Health Reinsurance Institute, National Association of Comprehensive Health Insurance Plans (NASCHIP), and Not for Profit Foundations as a resource on topics surrounding access to health insurance coverage, nonprofit reinsurance and insurance reform.
We have been requested to study and project the impact of reinsurance pools in various states, as well as to discuss the impact of potential legislative changes and what role the reinsurance program and/or high risk pool could play in mitigating any negative effects of such changes.
Appropriate Involvement:
All contact with Legislators is first communicated to the board involved, and each request is evaluated to ensure PAI involvement is appropriate.
PAI has proven to be capable and responsive to the outcomes of pending legislation, including being called upon to implement new programs, wind down existing programs in an orderly fashion to ensure minimal disruption to program members, and to modify existing programs to meet newly established legal requirements.
